Nagano prefecture is called "Shinano" or "Shinshu" from ancient time. Many people call "Shinshu" today.
Shinshu is located in the center of Japan. Popular holiday resort are full of plateaus and lakes.

Reservation is required at Youth Hostel in Japan. Room are shared men and women separately. Some Youth Hostels may not be convenient to public transportation.
Be sure to plan your trip carefully in advance.
Nagano has about 20 Youth Hostels in 6 areas, which are surrounded by lakes, rice paddies or temples.
